Rowdy Mermaid is seeking a bright, knowledgeable and highly motivated Area Sales Manager, Southern California to drive revenue, expand distribution, grow key accounts and improve and expand on shelf placement and facings in the California market. This role requires the ability to drive and expand distribution and placements, knowledge of the retail landscape, and familiarity with the innerworkings of store level pricing and promotions. This is a field-based role, with expectations for store visits at least four days per week. This position reports to the Director of Sales, and must be based in Southern California. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Account visits
      • Identify and secure critical and key accounts in the region to hit annual sales goals
      • Complete daily account visit requirements that have actionable sales-orientated follow up
      • Logging all account calls/visits in Rowdy Mermaid CRM
      • Improve Rowdy Mermaid shelf placement and quantity of facings at all accounts
      • Reset cold box as necessary to improve Rowdy Mermaid facings or placement on shelf
      • Provide excellent customer service through development of account call and visit patterns
      • Offer after-sale follow up and Rowdy Mermaid education to retailer
      • Regularly merchandise Rowdy Mermaid during all account visits when applicable. Including but not limited to entering back room and coolers to retrieve product and completely stock retail shelf

  • Retail Execution and Pricing
      • Develop comprehensive understanding of trends within functional beverage and retailers visited
      • As required, survey accounts noting frontline and promotional pricing within category
      • Secure displays/secondaries at all times but especially during promotional periods
      • Knowledge base and maintenance of existing planograms. When necessary, communicating needs to retail and distributor partners

  • Distribution
      • Responsible for growth in total territory points of distribution. Must achieve growth targets and goals
      • Work independently to call on account with the comprehensive goal of growing new buying accounts as well as new distribution in existing accounts
      • Develop strong motivating relationships with distributor and merchandising reps in region
      • Execute a set number of ride-alongs with reps, building collaboration and share of mind
      • Focus and high level of execution and planning for new item or new line launches in market


  • Miscellaneous
      • Execute and assist in blitzes and crew drives in and out of your market
      • Participate in trade shows as needed
      • Collaborate with Rowdy Mermaid team, sharing best practices and learnings in the market
      • Four days of the week required in field and in market



    • Minimum 1-3 years experience in sales
    • Excellent time management and relationship-building skills
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Based in territory (Los Angeles metro)
    • Ability to be in-market at least four days per week, with other travel up to 50%
    • Ability to lift and move 15-pound cases; frequently climb and kneel to fill point of sale or build displays
    • Safe driving record
    • Valid drivers license 
    • Ability to drive to and from accounts on a regular basis


    • Existing relationships with natural-channel distributor reps, regional accounts and brokers
    • Existing relationships with conventional distributor reps, regional accounts and brokers
    • Experience with DSD
    • Passion and experience with functional chilled beverages and CPG
    • A love for natural products, keeping pace with the industry, and championing brands
    • Experience with a high-growth emerging brand
