All About Ashwagandha

February 14, 2022

Calling all curious lifelong learners, gather around. Like us, you probably believe life is a continuous adventure and wellness is a journey to be enjoyed. After all, the journey of learning is what is exciting and fun. It is wise to wonder and we fully encourage it.

If you are anything like us, you probably read your product labels and look for flavors and ingredients you, and your body can recognize. (You know, ingredients you can actually pronounce). What happens though when you pick up a can of our Sparkling Tonics with Adaptogens and think, “What the?!” Cue the wonder.

We get it, we seek flavor in unexpected places to create a refreshingly rowdy experience, but some of our ingredient selections may cause you to take a beat and really wonder, “No, but seriously, what are these things?”

We like to mix old age practices with modern delights to provide a subtly luscious and effervescent sip in every one of our beverages. We totally geek out on science to craft original beverages with absolute intention and we really mean it when we say every single ingredient has a purpose. Every. Single. One.

Go ahead, ask those questions, channel your curiosity, and take a deep dive with us as we take a closer look at one of our most popular adaptogens - ashwagandha.

What is Ashwagandha and What are the Benefits?

Ashwagandha, say it with us now, ash-wa-ghan'-duh, is a type of powerful adaptogen that is super rejuvenating. Adaptogens have been shown to balance and support various parts of the body, or body systems, especially when we have a lot going on. Think of things like the holidays, school, work. Translation: Everyday life.

As a quick reminder, adaptogens are components of herbal medicines that are said to help the body deal with emotional and physical stress. Simply put, adaptogens improve the way the body responds to stress. Adaptogens are rooted in traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine and potentially impact how much of the fight-or-flight hormone cortisol is released, helping to reduce overall stress. Talk about a win-win.

Also known as “Indian Ginseng” or “Winter Cherry,” ashwagandha promotes learning and memory retrieval. It is often used to support brain and cognitive function as well as energy and immune support, though it is most commonly used to support daytime energy and stress levels.

It can also be used to encourage a healthy inflammatory response and to promote healthy, restful sleep patterns. Recent studies have even shown a significant drop in mental stress when it is taken consistently. (Umm, sign us up please).

Origins of Ashwagandha

Grown in India, the Middle East, and parts of Africa, ashwagandha is an evergreen shrub that has been used for thousands of years in India’s system of traditional medicine known as Ayurveda. (See, we told you we enjoyed mixing age-old practices with modern delights).

How to Use Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha can be used in a variety of ways. Add it to ghee, bake it into brownies, or sprinkle it on smoothies. You can also make a mug of ashwagandha cocoa, a latte, or tea. Consider combining it with turmeric to create another popular recipe, homemade moon milk, or using it as an ingredient to make nut butter balls or bites. (Yum!) Although these are all delicious ways to enjoy ashwagandha, we prefer our ashwagandha a little bit on the rowdy side. Enter Blackberry Ashwagandha Sparkling Tonic.
